The responsibilities of the Office of the Inspector General include:
- Initiating and conducting independent fiscal and management audits, inspections, and investigations of government operations.
- Conducting other special audits, assignments, and investigations.
- Annually conducting an operational audit of procurement activities of the City of Baltimore government while also performing the Annual Report for the Office.
- Forwarding to the appropriate authorities evidence of criminal wrongdoing that is discovered as the result of any audit, inspection, or investigation conducted by the Office.
The OIG investigates allegations of misconduct by City of Baltimore government employees, contractors, and its recipients, which may involve violations of criminal law, civil statutes, City of Baltimore regulations, or employee standards of conduct. Reports also include findings and recommendations regarding program weaknesses, contracting irregularities, and other institutional problems that are discovered as a result of complaints or investigations initiated by the OIG.
